    Why See A Sex Therapist?

It’s not easy to talk about sex. Many people suffer from varying sexual dysfunctions due to medical conditions or side effects from medications, yet they do not discuss their symptoms with their doctors!
Some of the more common reasons couples seek counseling from a sex therapist include inhibited sexual desire, lack of arousal, painful intercourse, erectile dysfunction, inability to orgasm or premature ejaculation. Sometimes there are simple, quick solutions to problems, but oftentimes people discover that their intimacy issues involve much more than just sex. Intimacy includes major aspects of relationship and communication. These can be the more fulfilling and lasting elements of expressing one’s sensuality, and over time seem to increase in importance as we mature.
Sex therapy can be done with individuals, but it tends to work best when a couple enters into treatment together (so you have someone to practice with). Dr. Seidman’s goal is to help you obtain a deeper level of love and intimacy, perhaps, than you have ever experienced before!
More recently, people have been seeking certified sex therapists to discuss issues they are having that relate to living alternative sexual lifestyles. Dr. Seidman is one of the few practitioners who identifies herself as a Kink Aware Professional (KAP).

Dr. Seidman was featured on the Women’s Radio Network 1 show Keeping it Real with KC as well as the Open Forum with Bridget Grayson discussing sex therapy

    Why I Became a Psychotherapist…

“When I was in my first year of college, my brother was diagnosed with HIV. Dealing with issues like these are not easy, to say the least. The emotional toll was great. Though life presents us with these circumstances, it does not give us an instruction manual on how to deal with them. Even though my brother passed away and unfortunately, my father, too, passed away within one year of each other, their deaths have given me an unexpected gift; a relentless passion to help others overcome their emotional difficulties and gain strength from them as well. As our emotions can often appear so complicated, I knew there had to be an easier way to understand and deal effectively with them. Over the past 20 years, I have worked to develop a unique, realistic and guided approach to positive psychological health that empowers you to overcome your present troubles, but future ones as well. All it takes is your commitment to improve. I truly love what I do and the satisfaction it brings to myself and the people I treat. Most people cannot say they found their ideal job, but I can.

    Benjamin Bachus, Psy.D

“Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems & to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.” – Victor Frankl.

When working with me, you can expect to feel safe, supported, & appreciated. However, you can also expect to feel challenged & encouraged. It is my goal to work with you (not just FOR you) to help align your values with your actions to help you be the person you want to be & live the kind of life you want to live. Life can present challenges & opportunities in many unique forms. Sometimes, it is hard to distinguish between the two.

As a therapist, I have worked in anxiety clinics, suicide survivor support groups, autistic/learning disabled centers, residential substance abuse treatment facilities, and as a mental health provider in one of the detention facilities for the Broward Sheriff’s office. I completed my post-doctoral residency at the Associates in Behavioral Counseling and have decided to stay here as a licensed clinical psychologist.

As a personal note, I was born and raised in Texas, and have had the wonderful opportunity to live in several different states from Colorado to the Midwest before settling down in Fort Lauderdale and getting married to my beautiful wife in 2015. My interests include being with friends and family, challenging myself in any way I can think of, playing sports, and being in nature or with my numerous pets.
